The Kidney Conundrum

Kidneys: the bane of my sons existance.
For those of you who have the pleasure to know me personally, you might know that when I was pregnant with my delightful child, they picked up something abnormal at the 20 week ultrasound. Doctors all assured me that his dilated kidney was nothing to stress about and it would probably clear up by the time he was born. It didn't. After many more ultrasounds, a terrible test involving a catheter and radiation, and many futile appointments with his Paedeatrician, we were still getting the same line: "Don't worry about it, it will probably clear up on its own".

Well, fuckers. It didn't. When we moved to Alice Springs and got a new doctor, his kidney had gotten so bad that the sonographer thought that his kidney just had a giant cyst on it. It even confused the Paedeatrician.  He too first thought that it was just a cyst, but thought better of it when presented with the medical history. He called a specialist in Adelaide. He then called us to tell us that we'd be going to Adelaide for surgery. That this problem should not have been left for so long. So now, instead of having surgery to fix his kidney, there is a good chance that the damage is too severe and they'll have to remove his kidney entirely.

In conclusion, my healthy, happy 17 month old will be having major surgery in two weeks time. Being a crazy person, I'm stressed out like you wouldn't believe. In light of all this, finding super awesome win things on the internet has taken a back seat to drinking, moping, and immersing myself in computer games. Hopefully once my little boy has recovered from surgery things will return to normal. In the meantime, you'll just have to deal with me being a shitty blog owner :)

  1. I have decided that Drs are useless. And the dumb & useless ones seem to congregate in Geraldton and WA in general.
    I'm so sorry for Liam.
    And you.
I would like to punch someone on your behalf.
    Call me
