Emotional Break Up

It's not me, it's you.

I've become infected. In fact, I think I've been a victim for quite some time, but it's only now that the symptoms are so severe that I've noticed. The signs are plastered all over Facebook and in guild chat. It's beyond ridiculous; it's time for an intervention. My emoticon addiction has got to go!

Happy! :D
Silly! :P
Dog died! T_T
Mischievous! >:3
I'm right and you're wrong! ;)

It's beyond stupid. Now we even have crying faces whose tears defy gravity... :'(

My personal vice is that damned silly face. It's practically at the end of every sentence I write now. It's like a self defence mechanism or something. Whoops, that comment was a bit too close to home and may be crossing some boundaries. Time for a silly face! They'll never suspect that I actually think they're an idiot. [Insert mischievous face here]

Meanwhile, the books behind them weep.

Since I seem to be wholly embracing this "Cranky Old Nanna" persona I've got going, I'm going to run an experiment. I'm going to spend the next week refraining from any use of emoticons or their equally lazy cousins, "LOL" and "ROFL". It will be interesting to see if my communication improves... and if my snark gets me into any trouble!

Special thanks to Beâarthur helping me with the screenshot. I expect you to keep me in line!

Quitters Never Win

I'm beginning to feel like the only words I'm saying lately are, "I quit!". First it my Auction House addiction, then it was Guild Master, and now it's been uttered to my raid leader.

Or should that be the other way around?

You may have seen my Healer Aggro rant and figured that it was coming. You're right, but only partly. I still enjoy raiding, and it would be unfair -- and rather stupid -- for me to lay the blame at the healers' feet when it's not just them. Everyone has been swept up in this lethargy, this, "I've got Destroyer's End, progression is done." attitude that has a really bad effect on performance.

I think even the raid leaders are succumbing to it. On Wednesday I received a few tells wanting to know what the go was with raid because there was no event on the calender. Inner rage aside that people are still coming to me with these types of questions; I thought to myself that it was a very good question which could be asked about the groups direction as a whole.

After a chat with the raid leader about my hiatus from the team and the reasons for it, this beauty popped up on the forums.

Starting next week it will be H Morchokk then on to H Yoshaj and we will stay there until he is dead. when we kill him we will do Normal Zonozz and hagar for now, then on to Heroic Ultraxion.
If you find as a raid 1 member you don't want to do Heroics or dont have the time or patience then pls let the raid leader know so that you can be replaced.

Music to my ears! I totally have the time and patience to defeat some heroic mode bosses. I just sincerely hope that others feel the same, and that attitude and performance issues will finally be addressed. Hopefully it will be enough to re-kindle my love for raiding Dragon Soul.

Harry Potter and the End Of An Era

If only I grew up to be as hot as these kids did.

We did it. We might have been four days late to the party, but we finally went and witnessed the end of an era. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two has been watched. We laughed, we cried, we were happy with what we saw. And now, we must die because we have nothing left to look forward to. Our lives are now complete.

While I sit here and wait for death to come to me, I'm going to take a trip down memory lane.

In true Neri fashion, I was totally late to the Harry Potter parade. I remember first hearing about the books when I was in year 10, but I hated the people who told me about it, so I refused to read it out of principle. Yes, I am that petty. It wasn't until well into Year 11 that curiosity got the better of me and I decided to have a look at what all the fuss was about. By that stage, the first four books were out and The Chamber of Secrets was about to hit cinemas.

My fondest memory of the movies was going to the premiere of Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban with Casey in these amazing robes that her Nan had made us. My hideous orange and purple hair was crimped in a terrible attempt to recreate Hermione, and we had drum sticks for wands. It was kind of awkward being the only adults that didn't have kids with us at the screening. Add the costumes and we must have look like a pair of morons.

My mind was fucking blown watching that movie. Alfonso Cuarón systematically destroyed the universe that Chris Columbus had created and I relished every second of it. Suddenly the Harry Potter universe was how I had imagined it to be. I was a public schooled kid, screw having my shirt tucked in! What, pristine green lawns? Hell no, a rickety bridge perked precariously above certain death is the way to go!

Casey and I wasted so much of our late teens obsessing over the Harry Potter world. We perverted it to our own ends; it helped us both work through some big issues that I'm almost 100% certain aren't even remotely related to the Harry Potter story. As the plot got darker, we grew older and wiser. I think it's pretty freakin' awesome that we were together to watch the final ever Harry Potter movie. Those dorky kids who watched Prisoner of Azkaban in costume are now living very different lives to what they imagined. Harry has been a part of the journey and will, for me, always remind me of the 'good old days'.

Damn it, that's two soppy "I love my friends!" posts in a row. I'm getting all pathetic and sentimental in my old age. I'd better end this with a bang.

...

I would totally do dirty things to Ron Weasley.

Venting is all the Rage

I just wrote an email. It was angry, it was angsty; it read like a Livejournal post. It also wasn't addressed to any one of the people who helped create it.

I tried crying and I felt like a princess. I wanted to throw stuff, but then I got worried that maybe one of my projectile weapons would hit the unsuspecting toddler who at any moment could pop out from his lair to see what all the fuss was about. Angry scrubbing worked for a while, but once again, the toddler thwarted me. It's really hard to work up a good momentum when there is a two year old trying to 'help'.

So, I did what any self respecting woman filled with rage would do - I fired up the kettle, poured myself a nice, strong black coffee, and opened up Gmail. The toddler was being entertained by a DVD, the housemates all at work. Perfect time to sit quietly in contemplation...or whip up a 1,000 word essay about what exactly is pissing me off so much!

Message sent. Ahhhhh.

I went back to whatever it was I was doing before I decided to unload and realised that I wasn't quite so pissed off anymore. It felt good to get it all off my chest, even if I had done absolutely nothing to resolve anything that was bugging me in the first place.

My poor, unsuspecting friend wrote back a little while later. Her response was so thought out, so caring and full of love that I may have shed a few tears and I didn't feel cheap or tacky afterwards. She is a truly amazing person, who even from thousands of kilometers away can still make me feel better and give me some much needed perspective.

I'm not angry anymore. Now I'm just home-sick.
